Oily skin is the result of
an excessive production of sebum. Sebum is an oily substance
that is naturally produced by the skin. Excessive amounts of
sebum clog the skin pores. This results in an accumulation of
dead cells which forms pimples, resulting in acne.
It is important for you to take of your skin if
it is oily. Oily skin care results in the removal of excessive
sebum from the skin. This does not mean that you are removing
all oil from the skin.
Oily skin care begins with a cleanser. You have
to be selective when choosing a product. Not all cleansers will
work. Cleansers that work better on oily skin are those which
contain salicylic acid also known as a beta-hydroxy acid.
Cleansers of this type retard the rate sebum production. You
should cleanse your skin twice a day, more in humid
weather.
Check the ingredients of the skin care products
before you purchase one. You do not want a product that
contains oil. Be wary of products that are labeled as suitable
for all skin types.
After cleansing your skin, you want to apply a
toner. If you have extremely oily skin, you may want to use an
alcohol based toner. Be careful when you use a toner. Read the
directions for the proper amount to apply. Overuse can harm
your skin.
You may want to try a few products before you
decide on a single one. Not all products will be suitable for
your skin.
If the over-the-counter products do not work
for you, you should see a dermatologist. They can prescribe
stronger products for your oily skin such as Vitamin A creams,
retinoids, sulfur creams, and so on.
You should establish a daily oily skin care
health regimen. Cleanse your face; apply a toner and a
moisturizer. You should do this at least twice a day for
beneficial results.
